Love to Move is the UK’s biggest age and dementia-friendly
seated exercise programme, designed specifically for older
adults, including those living with dementia, Parkinson’s disease,
or cognitive impairments. It focuses on improving physical,
cognitive, and emotional well-being while fostering social
connection and enjoyment.

The exercises were carefully designed and tested over a two-year period and co-created with people living with dementia in both Care Home and Community settings. Love to Move’s bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns throughout the session are the exercises which stimulate the pathways between neurons in the brain and are what help people with memory and other brain functionality. Many Love to Move participants have re-gained skills and everyday living functions that they previously thought lost through dementia.

It is specially designed to get older people moving and functioning better by carefully integrating the use of gymnastic foundation skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction activities. Bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns are understood to benefit older people and those with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, by enabling the left and right side of the brain to process information independently; thus improving cognitive function, coordination and the ability to carry out daily activities more independently.

Research conducted by Age UK in June 2016 said: “The Programme has a demonstrable benefit in the physical, emotional and cognitive aspects of older people and those older people having mild to advanced forms of dementia appear to benefit the most.”

Natalie is our licenced Love to Move instructor who is fully trained to deliver the Love to Move sessions.
We will be offering sessions around Swindon and the surrounding areas but also offering this out to care homes and other groups that may find this of interest. Please get in touch if you are interested in finding out more.
